5 questions for Inta Urbanoviča

1. What are you?

We each have many roles in our lives that we have to experience. At Triviums, my role is connected with issues about Latvian business language, and therefore, I am a eulogist of the Latvian language and sometimes also a faultfinder in this environment.

2. A book that you would recommend others to read – why?

There are many interesting and captivating books on my bookshelf. However, among there is one book of books which helps me during h sad and grey, as well as happy and colourful moments.  I. Ziedonis’ Epifānijas [Epiphanies]. It is a book that is beyond time, authority, emotions and the boundaries of imagination.

3. TEDx talk, which one do you recommend watching – why?

It is hard for me to pick out a talk, because I actually prefer to observe the speaking process – it is so interesting to investigate and analyse how people reveal their stories, their experience, their emotions, their knowledge and also their lack of knowledge.  It is not even that important WHAT they are talking about, but HOW they do it and every speaker is special from this perspective.

4. What inspires you and gives you energy?

Firstly, my beloved and close people, Secondly, Latvia’s environment, thirdly, my listeners. Everything that is right here an arm’s length away, and can be encountered every day.

5. Why are you interested in business language or the Latvian language?

Language is the most beautiful, interesting and most complex societal phenomenon. We cannot get by without language – it creates the framework for our lives and determines our perception of the world. Whereas, business language is the measure of the modern person’s economic, political, philosophical, social, and cultural understanding of life. I cannot imagine that something could be more interesting than the study of language.
