5 questions for Reinis Upenieks

1. What are you?

Greetings! I am a person just like you! I am a presenter, consultant and colleague. With regard to my professional identity, I am a psychologist – I practice in the clinical and health psychology field, well as the employment and organizational psychology field.

2. A book that you would recommend others to read – why?

I would recommend that you read George Orwell's most famous works 1984 and Animal Farm. Why? Because quotes from these works are often used and knowing the context helps in a better understanding of the particular concept.

3. TEDx talk, which one do you recommend watching – why?

The two professional audiences with which I work most frequently are doctors and teachers. This is why I'd recommend several TED talks: Sir Ken Robinson’s Do Schools Kill Creativity? and Bring on the Learning Revolution! as well as Brian Goldman’s Doctors make mistakes. Can we talk about that?  And I recommend these talks for anyone, irrespective of their profession, as teaching and healthcare affect everyone.

4. What inspires you and gives you energy?

I am inspired by working with passionate people who are fired up about what they do; who focus their energy on achieving something, not whining. Every day, I come into contact with many different people, which is why energy is provided by activities where there are fewer people..

5.  Why are you interested in organizational psychology?

Organizational psychology is still about people, only in the organizational and employment context. We are at work for a proportionately large period of our lives, which is why I am interested in how we can make this part of our lives more pleasant, inspirational and meaningful!
