The Effective Manager’s ABC (Level II)

Aim of the course:  To provide participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills for effective employee management in today's conditions.

Working method:  an active and interactive form of work; the course includes frequent discussions, practical exercises and tasks, during the analysis of which, participants will gain a theoretical insight into each of the themes. Participants are invited to share their situations and having learned best practice, will search for various solutions and opportunities together.

The active involvement of participants is a precondition for a successful learning process!

Target audience Middle level managers with experience and basic knowledge in employee management.

Programme:

In the first part of the course, we will be discussing the context of change, changing roles and the conditions for achieving outstanding results. We will discuss Emotional Intelligence in team management and practice useful communication tools.

In the second part of the course, we will be looking for solutions to various, complex non-standard situations in the everyday life of a manager, as well as discussing well-being and mental hygiene issues.

Session 1. (3h)

Introduction. The VUCA world and management in uncertain conditions:

  • The VUCA concept, leadership and management in VUCA conditions.
  • The roles of the manager and the employee in the new world.
  • What is required by the employee, manager and team to be effective in the VUCA world?

Change management:

  • How do people perceive changes, and what assists them or inhibits them from accepting them?
  • How one notices the need to support people in the change process, and the application of suitable strategies.
  • The manager’s role and tools in change management.
  • How to guide the employee towards development.

Session 2. (3h):

Emotional intelligence in a manager's work:

  • Emotions in our life. What is emotional intelligence and what are its basic principles?
  • What do emotions tell us, their influence on work quality and what can be done with them?
  • Perception of emotions and their display at work. The emotionally intelligent manager, colleague and employee. The emotionally intelligent team.

Session 3. (3 h):

Complex negotiations and the manager's communication Work with employee situations.

  • 21st century feedback.
  • Conflict resolution.
  • Negotiations about money.
  • Discussions about motivation.
  • Toxic behavior and discussions about this.
  • How to combine firmness and humaneness in practice in negotiations.

Session 4. (3 h):

Renewing resources and self-motivation.

  • Manager and employee wellbeing and life and work balance.
  • Renewing resources and mental hygiene.

Winding up, conclusions and mutual feedback
